In 1987, Dr J M Juran, the Quality Guru, assessed the opportunities for Quality Improvement in India. This was pre-liberalization. He concluded that Quality was not on the agenda for most Indian organizations.
He believed that for a nation to evolve and embed quality improvement as a way of life, the focus needed to extend beyond business to include healthcare and education.
